Purchasing a home is one of the biggest financial investments you will make, so it is only natural you will want to protect your investment and ensure your home retains the best quality possible. However, just like any other investment, we understand that sometimes things can go wrong. But there is no need to panic, that is what warranties are for!
Warranties may seem a little complicated, but it is much simpler than you think! Here are five tips to familiarize yourself with the warranties included with your Home Creations home:
1. Understand Your RWC Manual
After you sign the contract for your new Home Creations home, you will receive your Residential Warranty Company (RWC) Manual. This is your guide for everything regarding your warranties, so be sure to keep this manual in a safe place and refer to it when you have questions. We highly encourage you to read your manual carefully!
2. Learn About Your RWC Coverage
Your RWC Coverage begins after your limited 1-year builder’s coverage, provided by Home Creations, expires. This 10-year structural warranty is outlined in detail in your RWC Manual, so make sure it is still tucked away in a safe place! Once your builder’s coverage expires, all warranty claims should be directed to the RWC so they can assist you in the best way possible. And remember, your shingles, heating and colling units, and appliances all have their manufacturer’s warranties so be sure to know how to contact the manufacturers should any problems arise.
3. It is ALL In Writing
So, you forgot everything that was explained to you about warranties for your home? Do not worry; when it comes to warranties, it is all in writing! Nothing can be verbally promised if it is not in writing! Details regarding your home’s warranty coverage can be found in your RWC Warranty Manual or you can reach out to our Warranty Department for help clarifying anything you need help with!
4. Do Not Sign Paperwork Unless All Work Has Been Completed
Understanding your warranties after you move into your home is crucial, but it is also extremely important to ensure your home is in a good and acceptable condition before you move in! As you walk through your home during your Homeowner Orientation, be sure to pay close attention and request anything not completed according to standards set forth by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) be adding them to your punch list. Do not sign any further warranty paperwork until the work has been completed to your satisfaction! Some items cease to be covered by warranty once your paperwork has been signed and you have moved into your home!
5. Learn How To Upkeep Your New Home
Just like a new vehicle, a new home requires proper upkeep in order to preserve its lasting quality. Taking the time to understand the best practices for maintaining your home will not only help protect the quality of your home, but also help prevent issues from arising that are not covered by your warranties.
